I owe quite a bit of my cooking skills to my mom. While I was growing up, she made almost everything homemade, and always welcomed my help in the kitchen. My love of cooking started with her.
Now let’s talk gravy. My mom and I are very different gravy- makers, she makes hers with cornstarch, I make mine with flour. She makes hers with sausage, I make mine without. I don’t understand her gravy making process, so this is one of the few recipes that was not passed down to me, and that’s perfectly okay because this gravy is the bomb diggity.
4 Tbsp butter
4 Tbsp all purpose flour
2 cups milk
pepper to taste
salt to taste
1. In a saucepan over low/medium heat, melt the butter. When the butter is melted, whisk in the flour. Slowly pour in the milk, gently whisking as you do so. Allow the mixture to bubble, and continue whisking until desired thickness. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
